Answers to Exercises, Lesson 5

English sentences translated into Latvian :
  1. Viņa sūta Ritai laikrakstu arī. (She is sending Rita a newspaper too. Note: the word arī can occur just about anywhere in the Latvian sentence, and it would still be correct.)
  2. Rita sūta viņam lielu paku. (Rita is sending him a big package.)
  3. Roberts raksta jaunu grāmatu. (Robert is writing a new book.)
  4. Šeit ir laba vārdnīca. (Here's a good dictionary.)
Latvian sentences translated into English:
  1. What are you doing? (Ko tu dari?)
  2. I'm sending you some very good coffee. (Es sūtu tev ļoti labu kafiju. Note: there is no equivalent to the word "some" in the Latvian sentence, but the English sounds awkward without it.)
  3. Why are you reading the/a newspaper? (Kāpēc tu lasi laikrakstu?)
  4. Thank you. Bye/So long! (Paldies. Čau!)
